History behind the name

Joseph Ellicott was born in Bucks County, Pennsylvania on November 1, 1760. Born the middle child of Judith and Joseph Ellicott in Bucks County PA, he had three brothers and five sisters. Joseph and two of his brothers, Andrew and Benjamin, became expert surveyors, and for the next 15 years, the brothers laid out many of the boundaries around Georgia, Pennsylvania, and New York.  They were the first to determine the height of Niagara Falls.
